More than 300 Players Attend First-ever Futsal I.D. Camp

U.S. Youth Futsal National Teams to be Selected after four-day Event
OVERLAND PARK, KAN. (JULY 22, 2014) - Calling it "One small step for football, one giant leap for futsal," U.S. Men's National Futsal Team Head Coach Keith Tozer presided over U.S. Youth Futsal's first-ever national player identification camp last week, with more than 300 players from 25 states in attendance.

"I was extremely impressed with the quality of all the teams from each of our five regions," said Tozer, the association's technical director. "The quality of the players, coaching staff and organization of the event was excellent. This puts U.S. Youth Futsal at the forefront of futsal in the United States. I am extremely excited about finally having U.S. youth futsal national teams."

Participants were evaluated during three training sessions and four matches, all under the leadership of Tozer, Director of Goalkeeping Mark Litton and the U.S. Youth Futsal regional directors and coaching staff.

"The purpose of the event - and of the Futsal I.D. program itself - is to facilitate the training and identification of the most talented youth futsal players in the country and to select the very best for U.S. Youth Futsal National Teams," Director of Futsal I.D. Soorena Farboodmanesh explained. "The National I.D. Camp follows five Regional I.D. camps and subsequent Regional training camps."
Former National Team goalkeeper Otto Orf, the Lakes Region Director and a key architect of the program, is certain Futsal I.D. will have a vital role in the near and long term.

"U.S. Youth Futsal has put a program in place to identify generations of future players, to educate them, train them and lead them on a path that will afford them opportunities on youth and senior national futsal and soccer teams," Orf said. "Futsal I.D. will have a real and lasting impact on the sport of soccer in our country."

Esteban Mariel, a former National Team player and current South Region Director, agreed.

"It was the first National I.D. camp for futsal in United States history," Mariel said. "It marks a new era in the growth of the sport of futsal and the fundamental necessity of futsal toward lifting U.S. Soccer and player development to the next level."

Central Region Director Ty Stauffer, whose son Lucas is the youngest player in U.S. Men's National Futsal Team history, was thrilled to be part of the historic event.

"After discussing the idea of an identification program for several years, it was awesome to see it happen," Stauffer noted. "Players from all over the country were exposed to training led by Coach Tozer and his staff and they also had a chance to train with and build friendships with players from different regions."

Darin and Melanie Dewsnup brought their 10-year-old son Jeffrey from Utah and were incredibly impressed with the experience.

"Camp was extremely well organized and thought out!" the Dewsnups wrote on the U.S. Youth Futsal Facebook page. "Couldn't be more impressed with the staff and coaching! Top Notch!"

USYF Brings the successful Futsal I.D Trials to the local level

OVERLAND PARK, KS. (June 14, 2016) -  United States Youth Futsal has hired 17 experienced leaders in the U.S. Youth Futsal community to serve as State Directors for the Futsal I.D. program.

State Directors will be responsible for delivering Futsal I.D. Trials at the local level. The Trials mark an expansion in the successful Futsal I.D. Program, increasing opportunities for player identification and coach education across the country.
"Offering State Futsal I.D. Trials closer to the player's home will provide chances for many more players to participate," said Jon Parry, Executive Director of U.S. Youth Futsal. "Reduced travel and increased convenience will create greater access to the program."

The U.S. Youth Futsal I.D. program is designed to identify and develop elite players in the most challenging and competitive environment possible. Top players from each State Trial are invited to participate in the U.S. Youth Futsal National I.D. Camp for three days of training and matches. The best of the best are selected for U.S. Youth Futsal National Teams.

"The State Trial program will have an immediate and lasting impact on the development of youth futsal players across the country," said Ty Stauffer, U.S. Youth Futsal Director of Coaching. "In addition to improving the player and coach experience locally, it will bring more -- and better -- players into the national pool and onto U.S. Youth Futsal National Teams."

Since its inception in 2013, more than 800 players have participated in Futsal I.D. events and 114 players have represented their country internationally in Canada and Costa Rica. The U14, U16 and U18 national teams will travel to Colombia in July 2016.

Most U.S. Youth Futsal I.D. State Directors have completed U.S. Youth Futsal coaching courses and also work as local league directors. Additionally, many serve on the U.S. Youth Futsal regional and/or national coaching staff.

"Our newly hired State Directors are among the most knowledgeable futsal trainers and administrators in the United States," said Futsal I.D. Director Soorena Farboodmanesh. "Each has an extensive futsal coaching background, advanced coaching certification and has demonstrated a commitment to player development."

The 2016 National I.D. Camp will take place in Kansas City from July 7-9, 2016.

US Youth Futsal Launches
New National Futsal Academy Program
The Pathway to Developing Technical Players

OVERLAND PARK, KS - June 7, 2018 -A new era for Futsal in the USA began today as US Youth Futsal (USYF) announced the launch of its new Academy program.

The US Youth Futsal Academy program will powerfully impact and improve youth player development in the United States.

"We are thrilled to launch the US Youth Futsal Academy," said Jon Parry, Executive Director of US Youth Futsal. "We believe this is an important step towards developing world class players in America. We are proud that many of the country's top former futsal national team players are now USYF Academy Directors."

Setting the standard for elite futsal training and competition in the USA, US Youth Futsal's nationwide Academy program will improve player development by providing high quality and consistent futsal training environments, meaningful futsal competition and coaching education.
"The goal is to produce players of exceptional ability in both soccer and futsal," said Joe Farrell, USYF Academy Executive Board and Executive Director & Co-Founder, FutsalRVA. "The USYF Academy is designed for players who want to participate in high-level technical and tactical futsal training and competition. The Academy structure will complement - not compete with - a player's club training in order to optimize schedules and maximize development."

The Futsal Academy offers players a unique opportunity to develop and compete in a year-round futsal centric environment alongside of other dedicated and skilled players from a variety of youth soccer clubs.

"Futsal is paramount for player development in the USA," said Greg Simmonds, USYF Academy Executive Board and President, FutsalRVA. "The USYF Academy Program will provide environments where players are afforded opportunities to play and receive exposure on local, regional and national platforms."

With a focus on training and development over competition, Academy teams will have the opportunity to compete in meaningful games against the best in their regions in USYF Leagues, Showcases & the Championship Series.

"Our goal is to utilize our Academy's curriculum and structure to equip our players with the enthusiasm, courage and skills to flourish, be creative and to overcome any fear of failure," said Soorena Farboodmanesh, USYF Academy Director. "The USYF Academy will provide our players with events that maximize exposure and continue development."

The US Youth Futsal Academy Program has a three-year plan for growth. As part of the mandated criteria, every academy must provide training for a minimum of U10/12/14 and high school boys or girls in the inaugural year

The inaugural US Youth Futsal Academies are:

619Futsal Academy  (San Diego, CA)
ABK Futsal Academy
(Grand Rapids, MI)
ATL Futsal
(Atlanta, GA)
Columbus Futsal Academy (Columbus, OH)
Elite Futsal Charleston (Charleston, SC)
Fort Wayne Phoenix FC (Fort Wayne, IN)
Fountain City Futsal (Overland Park, KS)
Futsal 365
(Jackson, NJ)
FutsalETA (Yorktown, VA)
Futsal Factory Sacramento (Sacramento, CA)
Futsal Factory (Louisville, KY)
Futsal Indy Academy (Indianapolis, IN)
FutsalRVA (Richmond, VA
ISL Futsal (Austin, TX)

In the USYF Academy's second year, there must be U10/12/14 and High school for both girls and boys. In year three, each academy must have all age groups, from U10-HS, boys and girls that train year round.

  • In the 2018/19 USYF Academy season, academies will play in five geographic regions across the USA.
  • Every Academy will provide a minimum of one futsal training per week for at least 10 months.
  • Each Academy will diligently provide quality training and provide players a pathway for development
USYF received interest from over 100 applicants when it first launched its application process for the Academy. "We were looking for very progressive, forward-thinking futsal experts who will work closely together to grow the sport and impact how talent in the US is cultivated," said Farrell, who said this is just the first wave of Academies.
USYF will look to expand its program to include additional clubs that meet the strict criteria for development - and want to offer a real pathway to developing technical players.

If any Futsal organization is interested in the US Youth Futsal Academy program please contact Soorena Farboodmanesh at soorena@usyouthfutsal.com  or  CLICK HERE

US Youth Futsal hosts first-ever coaching course - Press Release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE              Contact: John Sciore, 314-604-4801 j.sciore@usyouthfutsal.com

US Youth Futsal hosts first-ever coaching course

Overland Park, Kan. (Nov. 5, 2013) – US Youth Futsal hosted the nation's first-ever Futsal coaching course in Mansfield, Mass. from Oct. 17-18. FIFA Instructors Keith Tozer and Constantine Konstin led 22 coaches representing 12 states and Bermuda through the two-day event, complete with classroom and court sessions.
“This was a historic event,” noted US Youth Futsal Executive Director Jon Parry. “It's not often in any country you can attend a course led by the national team coach.”
Tozer, who is both head coach of the US Men's National Futsal Team and US Youth Futsal's technical director, was ecstatic about the inaugural Futsal course.
“I was excited about conducting the first US Youth Futsal coaching course, but even more excited after the conclusion because of the quality of the coaches,” Tozer said. “There is a very bright Futsal future ahead in the United States.”
Attendance at the course was limited to US Youth Futsal regional directors and league administrators, with a couple special invitees. One of those guests, Peter Rickards of Bermuda's Footy Force, was especially impressed with the many activities and concepts learned in the course.
“Keith Tozer has such a wealth of knowledge on the sport and being able to learn alongside coaches with a passion for this developing game was the best part of this course for me,” attested Rickards. “To be educated by Coach Tozer was an invaluable experience.”
Attendee Craig Canavan from New York added, “This is just the beginning of something big as Futsal is moving in the right direction at a pretty fast pace. It was great to spend time and share ideas with other coaches that are teaching youth the game of Futsal. Coach Tozer and staff did a great job!”
The course immediately preceded the 2013 East Region FUTSAL I.D. camp, at which several of the course attendees served as staff coaches. Parry indicated that future US Youth Futsal coaching courses will be held immediately preceding FUTSAL I.D. camps, starting with the South Region in Dallas in March 2014.
“It is an introductory course but the impact should be widespread.” Parry said. “Coaches can take back what they learn and develop teams the right way, teaching their players the nuances of the game.”
The inaugural course participants included Rafael Amaya (Colo.), Tom Bellen (N.H.), Andre Berenzon (S.C.), James Boden (Mass.), Craig Canavan (N.Y.), Jay Eidson (Mass.), Soorena Farboodmanesh (Mass.), Jeff Lamy (Mass.), Max Latona (N.H.), Jason Miller (Mass.), John Montanaro (Mass.), Otto Orf (Ohio), Jon Parry (Kan.), George Pope (N.H.), Peter Rickards (Bermuda), Paul Roderique (S.C.), Khano Smith (Mass.), Ty Stauffer (Ky.), Kyle Teixeira (R.I.), Andy Tucker (Mass.), Guillermo Uribe (N.C.) and Bruno Victal (N.H.).
Futsal is the official indoor sport sanctioned by FIFA and is recognized throughout the world for promoting exceptional skill development and decision-making. It is played on a hard surface with boundary lines and a low-bounce ball and is now the fastest-growing indoor sport in the United States and in the world.
US Youth Futsal oversees leagues and programs in 59 markets in more than 27 states. Along with its affiliates it influenced a 70 percent growth over the previous year. It also hosts the US Youth Futsal National Championships.
